THE ESSENCE

STRAAT museum launches her new exhibition, The Essence, on April 10th. It’s all about diving into what drives graffiti - the names, tags, lines and repetition - as its own visual language. The show follows graffiti’s journey from the underground in New York City to a global movement that inspires modern art. To celebrate the opening, the legendary graffiti artist Bill Blast (Wise/William Cordero) will create new work, give an interview and sign blackbooks on April 11th.

The Transit exhibition investigates the transformation of industry through the climate transition. The complex relationship between climate, industry, and prosperity is central. The exhibition concludes the five-year study, which approaches the transition legally, politically, and ethically, with the central question of who bears the responsibility and burden and who benefits.

In this fifth edition, the diversity of expression takes center stage. The works range from figuratie to abstract and show how artists look at the world and use their imagination. Every artist works in their own way, with different materials like paint, chalk, collage, and plexiglass. It is precisely these differences that make the exhibition interesting and together create a strong whole

Amerens Hedwich (kims.kind.creations) gives discarded materials a new life. With her motto ‘Nothing new but the glue’ she transforms old books and found objects into poetic bird figures. Her work emerges intuitively and is full of little stories — vulnerable, playful and quirky.

Traditionally, artists have united in shared workspaces. Sometimes out of financial necessity, but soon followed by collegiality and friendship in the creation of artworks. This cross-pollination brings new insights but raises questions, such as those concerning authorship: what emerges when different art forms come together? Is there room for multiple individuals within a single artwork?

A. Beginning brings together seven artists who have each started over in their own way after studies, illness, or personal changes. The exhibition explores the balance between vulnerability and resilience and shows how the desire to start over runs deep within us. Even in uncertain circumstances, the urge to grow and move forward remains present.

Since the founding in 2015 by Prunk, PIV grew out into a global movement inspired by the timeless sound of New York and Chicago house. Tropikali is a colourful, two day queerfestival on the NDSM-werf where inclusivity, self-expression and community are central. With multiple stages and an eclectic line, from Latin house and reggaeton to techno and Balkan beats, the festival brings a unique mix of cultures and sounds. A part full of colour, music and community that you don’t want to miss.
Wish Me Well

From May 14, Wish Me Well will be on display at NDSM. This temporary, seven-metre-high monument by artist Lara Schnitger rises in a prominent spot at the ferry landing. The sculpture depicts a warrior who embraces and defends feminist values, and acts as a powerful beacon for emancipation in the public space. The official opening will take place on May 13.
NDSM Giants & 3x3 legacy courts

From April 24, the NDSM Giants will be on display at NDSM. Three eight-metre-high concrete sculptures designed by Gabriel Lester (PolyLester) are rising on the site. The giant basketball players, caught in movement, show from varying perspectives an exciting game between stillness and dynamism, between figuration and abstraction.
