What would it be like to be a machine? In Nasal Demons, artist and co-curator Quintus Glerum brings together 12 projects exploring the boundaries between humans and machines. Through absurdist and unexpected works, the exhibition questions our growing obsession with productivity, efficiency and technology, and what happens when we measure machines against human standards.

Tijdens Museumnacht op zaterdag 7 november komt The Argonauts van kunstenaar Ivan Morison opnieuw in beweging. Voor één nacht stelt NDSM Young Curator Marlene Deutinger een programma samen rond de sculpturen op NDSM. Met de Constructies van beeldend kunstenaar Cindy Moorman en Singing Soil van Studio Metaform (Kaj Boonstra & Emma Little) krijgen de sculpturen een nieuwe laag.

The IJ-Hallen is Europe's largest flea market, taking place roughly every three weeks on the outdoor NDSM wharf site (during spring and summer) or inside the NDSM LOODS (during autumn and winter). Lusthoven have a rich history as places that were meant to stimulate the senses. At the same time, they increasingly became an exclusive place for the wealthy owners to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. One example is the private Lusthoven aan de Vecht, where only wealthy Amsterdammers used to go. With this contemporary NDSM Lusthof, you can Studio Ossidiana a parallel between the pleasure gardens of yesteryear and the courtyards of today's apartment complexes, which are often only accessible to owners or tenants.

On the external story platform, underexposed stories about NDSM and the city are stored and shared. You'll hear personal stories from former employees, migrant workers, artists and creatives, plus music and podcasts about urban development and diaspora. In this way, discover new perspectives on NDSM and the city.

Under Pressure is the winning project of the NDSM Open Call 2023 by Catarina Garcia and Jim Du Pan. The winning proposal consists of a colossal steel sphere that appears to rise above the shipyard. The base of the work is formed by Crane 7, a derelict crane that in its heyday transported pieces of steel from the warehouse to the slipways, where ships were assembled and restored. The sphere is illuminated from within and functions as a beacon of light for the surrounding area, also visible from the water. The frame of the sphere is wrapped in plants that change with the seasons.

For the annual DGTL Festival at NDSM, Stichting NDSM-werf and DGTL jointly commissioned a new painting on the iconic container arch.

The two winning projects of the NDSM Open Call 2024, now presented in 2025 – Look Up by Renée Marcus Janssen and Shells by Lyangelo Vasquez – will be on view in the NDSM Loods from 12 September. Through the annual NDSM Open Call, Stichting NDSM-werf and Stichting Kinetisch Noord make it possible for artists and creatives based at the former shipyard in Amsterdam-Noord to realise new artistic projects.
