Code of conduct

TOGETHER, WE MAKE NDSM
NDSM is a place where all kinds of things come together. A place for art, culture, music, entrepreneurship, experimentation and connection. A place where people with different backgrounds, ideas and perspectives cross paths.
We value that freedom and diversity. At the same time, a free and open place does not happen by itself. It requires us to look out for one another, respect each other’s boundaries and take responsibility for creating an environment where everyone can feel welcome and safe.
This Code of Conduct sets out the basic principles we share. It is not about telling everyone how to behave, but about making clear what we stand for and what we expect from one another. Whether you work here, organise something, perform, create, visit or are part of the community: NDSM belongs to all of us. So we all have a part to play in taking care of it.
SPACE FOR EVERYONE
NDSM is a place for makers, artists, entrepreneurs, adventurers, night owls, visitors, local residents and anyone who comes here to do, make or experience something. We embrace difference, experimentation and a little bit of commotion. That is why we believe everyone should be able to move around here freely and safely. A good atmosphere does not happen by itself. We are all responsible for creating it.
RESPECT FOR ONE ANOTHER
Everyone is welcome at NDSM. We treat each other with respect, regardless of background, skin colour, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability or any other aspect of who we are. Differences are welcome. In fact, we value them. But discrimination, exclusion and hatred have no place here.
YOUR FREEDOM ENDS WHERE SOMEONE ELSE’S BOUNDARY BEGINS
NDSM is a free and open place, but freedom does not mean that anything goes. We respect each other’s boundaries and do not interfere, without invitation, with another person’s body, space or personal boundaries. We do not tolerate intimidation, bullying, sexual harassment, aggression, violence, abuse of power or any other form of inappropriate or unacceptable behaviour.
Not sure whether something is okay? Check in. See someone crossing a boundary? Take action or get someone involved.
WE LOOK OUT FOR ONE ANOTHER
Everyone who works, organises or spends time at NDSM contributes to the place.
We leave the wharf as we found it, or better. We treat buildings, artworks, materials and other people’s belongings with care.
We take into consideration the people who live, work and run businesses here, as well as the wider surroundings of the wharf.
For productions and events, we make choices wherever possible that minimise the impact on people, the environment and the climate.
CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION
Not everything you hear or see at NDSM is meant to be shared. We do not share personal or confidential information without permission and handle information relating to visitors, makers, residents, partners, colleagues and other people involved with care.
WE CREATE CONSCIOUSLY
NDSM is a place that is constantly changing. That also means we continuously reflect on how we use and leave the wharf.
In everything we organise, produce and create, we try to make conscious choices. Wherever possible, we minimise our impact on people, the environment and the climate, and look for ways to keep improving.
WE tAKE RESPONSibility
A Code of Conduct only works if we act on it together. We do not expect everyone to always know what the right response is. But we do expect you not to look away when something does not feel right.
See something? Speak up. Ask for help. Report it.
Would you like to report something or discuss a situation? Please contact us at info@ndsm.nl. We take all reports seriously. When boundaries are crossed or someone fails to follow the Code of Conduct, Stichting NDSM-werf may, depending on the situation and context, take appropiate action.
Together, we can make sure NDSM remains a place where there is space for difference, experimentation, connection and change, with respect for one another.
