HELLING X (RE)PRESENTS WUNDERKAMMER
.webp)
Opening Jan 16, 17.00, at NDSM Fuse
Helling X (1922), the oldest ship slipway of the NDSM Wharf, is a monumental concrete structure that once supported ship hulls. Over time, the building has acquired a new function and now serves as the home base of the participating artists, providing space for their studios.
In 2007, Helling X was designated a national heritage monument. Ten years later, in 2017, the city council adopted a groundbreaking motion stipulating that the X-slipway should be preserved for so-called “dirty-hands artists”. This decision paved the way for the development of the creative hub.
Thanks to extensive self-initiative and self-management, the dedicated efforts of Municipal Real Estate, and the generous policies of the Bureau Broedplaatsen, this vision has been successfully realized. The new Broedplaats Helling X was officially opened on 20 March 2025 by Alderman Touria Meliani.
The new collective consists of 23 makers: visual artists, musicians, theatre makers, photographers, designers, builders, performers, illustrators, and a shoemaker.
