SAIL HORIZONS:
This edition of SAIL focuses on the conscious use of raw materials and materials. More than 2 billion tons of waste are produced worldwide every year! A large part of it is not recycled, but incinerated, landfilled or, even worse, ends up in nature.

Together for SAIL without waste
During this edition, SAIL wants to prevent waste and pollution as much as possible. With one million visitors, that is quite a challenge. That is why the focus is on reduce, reuse & recycle: materials are chosen consciously, deposits and recycle points are ready and there is even a completely waste-free zone.

Clean water
Because SAIL is inextricably linked to water, smart Canal Cleaners are installed that collect litter from the canals before it ends up in the sea. Together with partners, SAIL is testing innovations such as waterless toilets, IJ water flushing and sensors for efficient water use. Urine is even converted to fertilizer and natural filters help purify the water.

Living lab

With partners, SAIL is working on sustainable solutions that can also be used after the festival. Discover all about these innovations at the Waterplein near SAIL Horizons.

SAIL LOTTERY:
Contribute to SAIL 2025 and win great prizes
The SAIL Amsterdam Foundation is organizing the SAIL Lottery to make the largest freely accessible event in the Netherlands possible. The proceeds not only support SAIL 2025, but also the foundation's social projects.
Lottery participants have a chance to win special prizes, such as a trip on a Tall Ship across the Atlantic Ocean. The draw will take place on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

By purchasing a ticket, visitors contribute to an event that brings millions of people together on and around the water and connects maritime and cultural heritage. Click here for more information.

Zwerk SAIL
As part of SAIL Amsterdam 2025, Zwerk is a contemporary exhibition inviting visitors to breathe, drift, and reorient. Situated along the main route between IJ-haven and SAIL On Stage, it offers a reflective pause amid the festivities.
Zwerk, the poetic Dutch word for sky, evokes shifting clouds, freedom, and boundlessness — yet also disorientation, estrangement, and our smallness before vastness. These contrasts unfold through film, installation, painting, and photography, featuring works by Yael Bartana, Wangechi Mutu, Nicolas Provost, Wolfgang Tillmans, and Henk Stallinga.
