Imagination is central at the NDSM Children's Atelier Children imagine and create their own works using a wide range of recycled materials from the artists' studios on the wharf. Under the guidance of these artists – who believe that every child is creative and can be encouraged to bring their ideas to life – children work from sketch to object. There's ample room to find solutions using the available materials, with the instructors actively contributing ideas throughout the process. The NDSM Children's Atelier team consists of artists who work on the wharf. The wharf itself, the elements of water and wind, and the existing artworks often serve as the starting point for the workshops.

‍Floating Messages

What message do you want to send out into the world? A heartfelt wish, a funny note, or perhaps a big dream? First, we'll sketch and build boats together, then you'll write or draw your message on the sail. Inspired by the artwork Wish Me Well by Lara Schnitger, children will build their own little wish boat.

At the end of the afternoon, all the handmade boats will sail together into the dock of the Y-helling, forming a colourful fleet full of stories, hope, and imagination. Watch your message drift away among all the other dreams and wishes!

The artists guiding you – Mélanie Corre, Laura Jehle, Valerie van Leersum, Hélène Min & Sophie Tiné – all work at the NDSM Wharf themselves. They'll help you get started, brainstorm with you, and ensure your idea truly comes to life.
