NDSM Children Atelier

NDSM Children’s Atelier – Creative workshop inspired by art
At the NDSM Children’s Studio imagination comes first. Children design and make their own creations using a wide range of leftover materials from the artists’ studios on the site. Guided by these artists – who believe every child is creative and can be encouraged to bring their ideas to life – the children work from sketch to object. There is plenty of room to find solutions with the materials available, with the guides actively thinking along in the process.
For this edition we will work with the theme of light. As we move towards the shortest day of the year, we will make floating light objects together. Using wooden structures and transparent materials, you build shapes that seem to float and bring light and movement into the dark days.
The NDSM Children’s Studio team consists of artists who work on the site. The shipyard itself, the elements of water and wind, and the artworks present often form the starting point for the workshops. The artists who guide you – Melanie Corre, Laura Jehle, Valerie van Leersum, Helene Min & Sophie Tine – all work at NDSM. They help you get started, think along with you and make sure your idea really comes to life.
