Longing for the wharf

Story of Omer Erdem by Stratenmakers Audiocollectief
24 Apr 2025

As the son of a former shipyard worker, graphic designer Omer Erdem returns to the grounds where his father, Mehmet, once worked. Mehmet was part of the first generation of Turkish guest workers at NDSM.

What did it mean to work there in the 1970s? How did you find your way in an unfamiliar city, surrounded by steel and cold? And what remains when NDSM shuts down, but the memories live on?

The audio is only available in Dutch.
