The city as a canvas

The city as a canvas
Eva de Klerk is the driving force behind the transformation of the NDSM wharf into a cultural free space. What started as shy curiosity grew into an act of collective imagination. Together with a group of artists, builders, and dreamers, she won a competition organized by the city and began creating a self-built art city inside the abandoned shipyard hall. No blueprints from architects, but plans coming directly from the community. Eva believed in bottom-up organizing, in experimenting, and above all in creating space for others to build their own ideas. Twenty years later, she looks back with pride — and with lessons learned.
