30 years on the NDSM ferry

Story of Ingvar Amelsbeek by Stratenmakers Audiocollectief
16 Apr 2025

Many people might not know that the music channel MTV was the reason a ferry was introduced between Central Station and the NDSM wharf. They only agreed to move there if their employees could easily reach Amsterdam North.

That decision had a big impact on the entire transformation of NDSM. Ingvar Amelsbeek was there at the time and went on to sail the NDSM ferry for thirty years. Over the years, he witnessed it all: partying crowds, quiet moments, and the gradual rise of a brand new skyline.
