The Turkish migrant workers

Story of Fadime Demir by Stratenmakers Audiocollectief
16 Apr 2025

In 2012, journalist Fadime Demir created the exhibition Turkish Pioneers at the Nieuw Dakota art space on the NDSM wharf - a meaningful location for her, where she could tell the story of the first Turkish migrant workers through film clips and texts.

These workers are an important part of NDSM’s history, yet they are often overlooked. It’s the story of a group of young, adventurous men who built their own community on the shipyard.

The audio is only available in Dutch.
