The man who kept listening

Story of Martin Pruimers by Stratenmakers Audiocollectief
16 Apr 2025

Martin Pruimers looks back on his years at the NDSM shipyard, where he started working in the early 1970s at the Office for Foreign Workers. As a young administrative employee, he played a key role in supporting hundreds of Turkish guest workers: arranging housing, applying for work permits, registering them with health insurance, and offering personal support. His involvement went far beyond paperwork. He often shared meals at the Atatürk housing complex, built strong connections with residents, and even helped organize funerals.
