Program

Beautiful Distress

Stop Motion Workshop

Sasha Herman is an artist who works with stop motion animation. Lately, Sasha's work has focused on epilepsy and ways to use animation to depict and share the stories and experiences of people with epilepsy. During the workshop, as part of the Invisible Loss exhibition, Sasha shares his knowledge about stop motion animation. Sasha will lead a workshop where visitors can help him with his latest animation project; using painted cardboard to make stop motion animated portraits of people talking about their experiences living with epilepsy.

New Dakota

'It's Not You, It's Me' exhibition

For all duos in It's Not You, It's Me, they are now exes. Especially for this exhibition, they will come together one more time to make something about their broken heart. Whether that happened twelve years ago, or just very recently, and the pain is still felt everywhere. Some are now living on as friends, others are secretly longing for reunion, and sometimes there seems to be nothing left of the love that once was.

Stichting NDSM-werf

Art installation

In Not in my backyard artist Rob Voerman refers to various functions: those of a shelter, nightclub, church and bar. The work is a response to the (over) regulation of public space in the Netherlands. This evening, Rob Voerman will be present and one of the conceivable functions will be activated. Location: former Sexyland plot, next to Beautiful Distress.

Treehouse NDSM

'Tongues' exhibition

Using the implications of the multicultural history of Amsterdam North, Treehouse NDSM has developed an exhibition that explores spaces of interspace and raises questions about what a home is. In these areas where many cultures and languages come together, how do people (re) formulate their self-esteem based on where they are?

- Fall Edition: Thursday, September 26

Participating parties

New Dakota is a contemporary art exhibition space at the NDSM wharf. The experimental program includes exhibitions, performances, tours and educational activities, with the aim of challenging artists and visitors alike and expanding their perspective on the world.

Beautiful Distress House uses art to increase understanding and compassion for people dealing with mental vulnerabilities. Art appeals to our senses and mind, can make us look at things in a different way and makes us aware of our own prejudices.

NDSM-Wharf Foundation programs and manages NDSM's monumental outdoor space as a cultural site that focuses on public character, creative experiment and polyphony. The foundation develops and presents location-specific installations and artworks by and with artists, designers and architects

NDSM Treehouse is an incubator at the NDSM shipyard with artists' studios, workshops and events. The diverse program offers the opportunity to participate in workshops, listen to live music during “Live At Our Place”, or view exhibitions.
