OPEN CALL BY STICHTING NDSM-WERF AND STICHTING KINETISCH NOORD

Catarina Garcia and Jim Du Pan‘s project ‘Under Pressure’ is the winner of this year’s NDSM Open Call! The project consists of a steel sphere around which plants gradually grow, the sphere is illuminated from the inside with LED and is suspended from the large crane on NDSM. The project is supported by the Faralda Crane Hotel. With the Open Call, Stichting NDSM-werf and Stichting Kinetisch Noord (NDSM Loods) focus on initiatives that arise from the so-called ‘breeding ground’ of the NDSM. This year’s jury consisted of Louis Pirenne – Art & Culture Project Leader Amsterdam-Noord, Tanja Karreman – former director Nieuw Dakota, Petra Heck and Ewa Scheifes – Stichting NDSM-werf and Mariska Middendorff – Kinetisch Noord. The aim was to realize the project at NDSM in the summer of ’23, but because the production process turned out to be more complex than anticipated, it was decided to postpone this to April ’24. ASSIGNMENT
With the NDSM Open Call, Stichting NDSM-werf and Stichting Kinetisch Noord (NDSM Warehouse) focus on initiatives that arise from the so-called ‘breeding ground’ of NDSM. We call on designers, theater makers, visual artists, craftsmen, inventors, musicians and other creatives from the wharf community to submit a proposal for art projects and cultural initiatives they want to realize on the NDSM terrain.
The assignment is: submit an idea for an art project (an installation, performance or intervention, anything is allowed) in the public space at NDSM. What would you like to make or show? The project may be located anywhere on the wharf, in the outside public space of NDSM or inside the warehouse.
