Stichting NDSM-werf wins the Ladislav Sutnar Prize

The Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art (former Faculty of Art and Design) of the University of West Bohemia (Chez Republic) follows the inspiring legacy of a Pilsen native and internationally renowned Czech-American designer Ladislav Sutnar. With the annual Ladislav Sutnar Prize the Faculty honors the life and work of this genius artist and at the same time shows appreciation to outstanding Czech and international artists and pedagogues for outstanding performance in the field of fine arts, especially applied arts and design, possibly also in connection with pedagogical work of the nominees. It can be also awarded to institutions that support modern art and design through their program and activities.

Besides ArkDes and Eric De Groat (SWE), Gerrit Rietveld Academie (NL), Docent and Academic Painter Helena Krbcová (CZ) and Songshan Cultural and Creative Park (TWN) Stichting NDSM-werf is winner of the seventh annual Ladislav Sutnar Prize awarded by the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art of the University of West Bohemia have been announced.

The Ladislav Sutnar Prize has been awarded to Stichting NDSM werf Amsterdam for its exemplary incubation support for young lively art, artistic handicraft and design. NDSM werf is an extensive and dynamic creative zone that has been set up on the site of a former Amsterdam harbour [shipyard]. It provides a stage for young creative artists for whom traditional expositions, exhibition halls and arts museums are still accessible only with difficulties. Its fresh energy and its openness to experiments in the cross-over genre make this centre a magnet for creative talents from all around the world. It is not an isolated community, but a centre that draws the attention of the broad public.

The prizes will be handed to directors Lucas Bonekamp en Demian de Rooij over at a ceremony held on Tuesday, 13 November 2018 in Plzeň, Chez Republic.
