NDSM Open Call 2019
After the successful first edition in 2018, Stichting NDSM-werf and Stichting Kinetisch Noord are organising the NDSM Open Call again this year. Artists, crafts(wo)men and creatives who have a workspace on the NDSM wharf East are invited to submit a project plan for a new art work on the wharf before Monday 8 April 2019, 09:00h. A programme board will select the proposals that are eligible for a financial contribution to realize the art project.
The NDSM wharf is a place for art, culture and creative ingenuity. This can be attributed to the very diverse and active artist community. Circa 400 artists have a studio in either the NDSM warehouse (Art City), beneath one of the slipways, at Treehouse or in another corner of the NDSM East area. The charismatic and vast terrain is at the same time a source of inspiration for new art projects. Artistic initiatives that stem from this source often have a keen eye for urban undercurrents and are therefore valuable for the area. The NDSM Open Call focusses on these initiatives, that sprout from the so-called NDSM ‘breeding ground’. All designers, theatre makers, visual artists, crafts(wo)men, inventors, musicians, creators and others creatives are invited to submit a proposal for an art project or cultural initiative that they would like to realize on the NDSM.
Submit a proposal?
Together, Stichting NDSM-werf and Stichting Kinetisch Noord offer a maximum of € 30.000 for the realization of cultural projects. The NDSM Open Call is exclusively geared to artists who have a verifiable workspace in the NDSM East area.
There will be no distinction between art forms, media, disciplines, specialisms, interests or materials. Also the type of project is free of choice: anything goes. It is however important that the projects can be realized on the NDSM wharf and is visible for an audience. A presentation of the project (in whatever form) is expected in the weekend of 28 & 29 September 2019.
Creatives who want to apply can submit their proposal HERE before Monday 8 April 2019, 09.00h. The proposal consists of:
- A description of the project (max. 500 words)
- Motivation (max. 300 words)
- CV and/or biography of the maker(s) (max. 300 words)
- Budget plan and plan for financial coverage
- Planning and target date for opening/presentation/unveiling
- Optional: reference material: max. 10 photos, max 3 ½ minutes of film or audio, max 2 A4-size pages of text (sent by WeTransfer to [email protected])
Proposals can be done in English or Dutch. Each proposal needs to be accompanied by a budget plan, and a plan for financial coverage. The budget plan should offer insight in the total costs of the project; quotations from suppliers can be attached. In the plan for financial coverage it should be stated how much is covered through NDSM Open Call, through the participant’s own investment and through funding by a third party. In case of the latter, please indicate whether an amount has already been pledged and provide proof, such as a letter of intent, if possible. Additional funding by a third party or own investments are not conditional to receive a grant.
There is no minimum or maximum amount that can be applied for. During selection, the programme board will take the total of available funds for the NDSM Open Call into consideration.
The projects that will be granted will be presented the weekend of 28 & 29 September 2019 during a cultural manifestation on the NDSM wharf.
The programme board will announce the selected projects in the week of 29 April 2019. This will also be done on the website ndsm.nl and on social media.
