Workshop | introduction to blacksmithing |

Between the imposing crane, ramps and sheds of the NDSM shipyard, the large-scale art installation by Atelier van Lieshout, the studio of artist Joep van Lieshout, has arisen since the end of April. Ferrotopia is a work of art in the public space, functioning workshop and pop-up museum.

In this workshop, Stichting Ijzerhart lets you forge a piece of work independently step by step, learning the principles of forging. You work with field guides and real coal so we can process the iron with enormous heat. The workpiece, a fire poker, is made and completed in 2 hours.

Why blacksmithing?

We experience again and again that forging does a lot with man. Working with the hands, controlling the hot fire, transforming the hard steel requires a number of basic skills that we would like to let everyone experience. Through the combination of technology, insight and strength we work on forming the iron, combining willpower and perseverance! You learn to control the fire and you are introduced to the basic forms of forging. An excellent opportunity to experience craftsmanship!
