Want to talk about what you have seen in the Over het IJ Festival theatre programme while enjoying a drink – or maybe even give a little performance yourself on the dancefloor? You can! Each evening from 22h00 in Noorderlicht, a different live band will play for you.
No grass can grow where The Spinshots have roamed.
The Spinshots are a 7-piece neo-exotica band from Amsterdam. They sprang from the wildest fantasies of visual artist Martin Draax, who dreamt of a band that emerged from an obscure world through a crack in reality. A band that bring you the tunes and backbeat you always dreamt of but never really through were possible. His dream came true and The Spinshots quickly moved from concept to a stage monster with gnashing teeth! The Spinshots draw influences from all over the world, past and present. Although their music is authentic and written exclusively for themselves, their interests can clearly be heard: 30s Big Band sounds, 40s & 50s Jazz and Dance music, and above all anything and everything from the 60s.Expect a distorted mix of Spy-Fi, Surf, Soul, Beat, Bollywood, Klezmer, Ethiopiques, Garage, Freakbeat and Funk: a soundtrack to a golden chapter from your life you haven’t experienced yet. Oh, and they look fantastic too – you’ll want them to spirit you away with them to their home planet.
