Abner Preis | THE MASK MAKER AND THE TREE
In his latest work, visual artist / storyteller Abner Preis breathes new life into an old folk tale. This tale has been adapted into a story centring around a village of zombies who enter into a pact with a magical tree so they can be happy forever. Preis asked residents of (North) Amsterdam to play the villagers as if they were zombies, seeking to highlight the systematic way we function within society and our alienation from nature: we are what we eat and how we see our environment. The tale will be told during a free 3-day workshop at the NDSM-Werf, together with a highly diverse group of people. The story, featuring the artist, choreographer, costume designer, musicians and a film crew, will be recorded on video and presented theatrically during the festival. The Mask Maker and The Tree is a cooperation between TAAK, Stichting NDSM-Werf and Over het IJ Festival. Following the performance in the festival heart, there will also be a film screening in Sexyland. Starts at 23h00. Tickets for the film are available at the entrance to Sexyland.
